Louder than Love is the second full-length album by the grunge band Soundgarden. It was released in 1989 through A&M Records. The album was rumored to have been originally titled Louder than ~censored~ or Louder than Meat. It was the last Soundgarden album to feature the band’s original bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Louder than Love spawned the EP Loudest Love and the video compilation Louder Than Live, both released the following year. In 2001, Q magazine named it as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time.

Down on the Upside is the fifth and final studio album by Soundgarden. It was released on May 21, 1996 through A&M Records. Although the album received strong reviews and sent two singles to the top of the Mainstream Rock charts, sales quickly waned and it failed to match the popularity of predecessor Superunknown

The album was notably less heavy than Soundgarden’s previous albums, and marked a further departure from their grunge roots. The band explained at the time that they wanted to experiment with other sounds (for example, the song “Ty Cobb” features Ben Shepherd and Chris Cornell playing mandolin and mandola)
